Toddler Art with Oil and Cotton (Age 2-4)

Toddler Art with Oil and Cotton (Ages 2-4)

Saturday, June 10, June 24, July 8, and July 22, 2023

Teacher: Abby Allen | Oil & Cotton

In this program, toddlers will draw, paint, sculpt, collage and print as they learn the elements of art: LINE, SHAPE, COLOR, TEXTURE and VALUE. Little ones get exposed right away to artists, art vocabulary, and art material safety. Story-time, songs, and movement help to engage the wiggliest artist.

Parents stay nearby for this class, allowing their child to build self-esteem and motor skills while warming up to the art studio. Oil and Cotton is pleased to partner with the Bath House Cultural Center for this exciting summer program. We will get inspired by the beautiful lake and enjoy lovely Saturday mornings together in East Dallas.

Abby Allen is a lover of all the arts. Her passion has led her through painting, drawing, mixed media and textile arts. Now through Oil and Cotton, she is learning the art of education and community.
She is the K – 5th grade art teacher at The Kessler School. She also teaches the kindergarten curriculum for the Young Artists program, ages 4-6 and the toddler curriculum for the Little Artists program, ages 2-3 at Oil & Cotton.

Kayli House is co-owner of Oil and Cotton. A native of Dallas and graduate of Booker T. Washington High School for the Visual and Performing Arts, where she studied music and visual art, she went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Reed College in 1997 and a Master of Music in Composition from the University of North Texas College of Music in 2002. In addition to developing programming and running Oil and Cotton with Shannon Driscoll, Kayli teaches piano to middle and high school athletes at Allegiance Academy, an elite soccer training facility and accredited school. She is also teaching elementary music at our neighborhood partner, The Kessler School, and keeps a lively private piano studio upstairs at Oil and Cotton. Working in the medium of music is a constant learning lab, and Kayli stays actively engaged in self-education and creative inquiry.

Shannon Driscoll owns Oil and Cotton along with partner Kayli House. She teaches book and paper arts with a focus on material science and the history of handcraft.

She received her Bachelor of Art in Art History with a focus on American folk art from the University of North Texas and her Masters Degree from the Kilgarlin Center for the Preservation of the Cultural Record at the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied book and paper conservation in 2006.
