Wild DFW: Explore the Amazing Nature Around Dallas-Fort Worth by Amy Martin, released on July 11 by Timber Press, features an entire chapter on White Rock Lake in its 25 adventures. Its flora and fauna are included in the field-guide section, and its prairies are lauded in the natural history and ecology section.
The White Rock Lake chapter emphasizes the wilder areas of the lake park such as the Old Fish Hatchery, Dixon Branch corridor, and the wet woods north of Mockingbird. Also included are places for quiet contemplation such as the benches on the eastern slopes to watch the sunrise and the docks on the west side for moonrise gazing. All presented with a handy map. Chapter photos provided by Rajiv Roy, plus Nick DiGennaro and Stalin SM. Many wildlife photos in the book were shot at the lake or nearby by Tracey Fandre and Kala King.
The book signing at the Bath House will include a short talk in the theater titled Wild DFW: Wild Waters of the East. Using some of the book’s 350+ photos, all shot by area naturalists, the talk will explore White Rock Lake, plus Spring Creek Forest Preserve in Garland and the Piedmont Ridge in southeast Dallas.
Before and after the talk in the lobby is an informal eco-fest for East Dallas nature advocacy groups. Come meet the volunteers who make the lake great! Dallas Master Gardeners and Native Plant Society of Texas–Dallas chapter (who maintain the Bath House’s pollinator gardens), For the Love of the Lake, and Friends of the Old Fish Hatchery. The lake’s prairie
restorations re represented by Native Prairies Association of Texas–Blackland Prairie chapter and North Texas Master Naturalists–Bison Hill Prairie team.
Amy Martin will be signing books and answering questions in the lobby. More information about Wild DFW can be found at Wild-DFW.com.
