June 6-July 4, 2026

Reception with the Artists: Saturday, June 6, 2026 (6-8 PM), with music by Johnny Sequenzia.

The Bath House Cultural Center presents Made in Plastic II, an exhibition featuring mixed-media works by Dallas artists ShabNam Modjarrad and Diana Marquis.

Made in Plastic II explores the relationship between art, nature, and human consumption habits. Through their work, the artists seek to raise awareness about environmental impact, encourage reflection on sustainable practices, and inspire viewers to reconsider the consequences of “single-use plastic.”

The exhibition features a diverse collection of paintings, installation art, wall mobiles, drawings, prints, crochet rugs, and three-dimensional mixed media works created with found plastic objects.

Several works in the exhibition are dedicated to local natural spaces. Two pieces, for example, depict imagined landscapes of White Rock Lake viewed from different perspectives. Some of the materials incorporated into these works were collected from the lake’s shoreline, while others are plastic bags gathered from one of the artist’s job sites. The panels used for these pieces were created from repurposed advertising canvases.

Many of the artworks are titled according to the length of time the incorporated plastic objects were used before being discarded. This approach highlights the stark contrast between the brief intended use of these materials and their lasting impact on the environment. Drawings of familiar plastic objects invite viewers to look more closely at everyday items designed to be quickly used and thrown away. Other works reflect on the idea that there is no true “away” when we discard trash or recycling, emphasizing the enduring presence of waste in our world.
