Salsa by the Lake

Free Salsa Classes

Join Amanda Cristina, a professional salsa dancer born in Puerto Rico, every Wednesday evening at the Bath House Cultural Center for a free salsa dance class.  The classes are offered from 7 to 8 PM on May 19 and June 2, 16, 23 and 30, 2021.

The students meet at the veranda of the Bath House with a view of beautiful White Rock Lake as the backdrop for their classes.

In this beginners class, participants of all ages learn about Salsa On 2 (Mambo). The instructor provides a brief background of the different styles of salsa dancing and the difference between salsa on 1 and salsa on 2.

Students also learn the basic salsa step, variations of the basic step, turns, shines, and partner work. The class begins with a brief warm up, followed by an overview of the basic steps and turns. The students then practice basic steps and turns to music of different speeds, in order to practice recognizing and following the salsa beat. For the second half of the class, the students learn a short choreography that can either be done individually or can be applied to partner work.

No experience, partner, or dance attire is required. Students should wear comfortable clothing and comfortable shoes.
