The study of Art History provides the curious learner with a portal into other times and
places. Taking time to look at a work of and to enjoy conversation around it can be very
satisfying. Our purpose, in this series, will be to demystify the art history experience, and
make looking at art more satisfying.

We have all experienced the frustration that is set off by a museum docent rattling off
names of artists and art movements. Those who have studied Art History seem to carry a
grid in their brains, ready to insert a new art experiences into time, place, or art movement.

The format is simple. We will gather around an art object and enjoy a conversation about
the cultural and aesthetic context. No prior knowledge required.

We can’t promise that you will be ready to lead tourists around the Louvre, but you will end
this series with a grasp of the scope of World Arts and the means to make connections
between art and cultures.
