Echo Theatre proudly presents the world premiere of You Must Wear a Hat, a compelling new play by C. “Meaks” Meaker.
Directed by Echo Creative Hadley Shipley, the play examines what two strangers, Tuesday and Weeks, pursue while waiting for the world to end. It is a delicate contemplation on what we need to survive and which parts of our humanity are worth preserving. A play for two actors—and a rabbit. The fish have died, the coral won’t hold on for long, and it’s been a very long time since they saw another person. Outside, it is very, very hot. You must wear a hat. Together, they pass the time making hats—and debating whether it still matters to keep making them.
In this world premiere, Meaker crafts a work filled with what remains unspoken: hope, grief, memories of the past, and plans for the future, as her characters try to figure out the meaning of community when the world might end tomorrow… or maybe next week.
