Where the Wild Still Breathes is a body of work grounded in quiet observation and urgency. Through intimate wildlife imagery, Dallas photographer Lili Banta explores species and ecosystems that persist in the margins, often overlooked, and often under pressure. Each photograph holds both presence and fragility, capturing life in spaces where the wild is fading, but not yet gone.
Dallas is home to an incredible variety of wildlife, and Lili is on a mission to help people see, appreciate, and protect it. As a photographer and conservation advocate, she explores the city’s hidden natural world and encourages others to recognize the beauty and value of the animals that share our urban spaces.
Lili’s goal is to deepen public understanding of urban wildlife, fostering respect and coexistence while reducing fear and misconceptions. She believes that small shifts in perspective and everyday actions can make a meaningful difference in protecting local species. Through her work, she tells a story of connection, curiosity, and rethinking how we share a growing city with nature. Her photographs reveal the remarkable wildlife found in the Dallas area, often prompting viewers to ask, “This was taken here?” Their initial disbelief quickly gives way to awe.
Lili Banta is a wildlife photographer dedicated to conservation and environmental storytelling. She uses photography to bridge the gap between people and the natural world, capturing not only the beauty of wildlife but also the urgency of protecting it. Drawing on her background in behavioral economics and clinical mental health, her work is grounded in the belief that connection inspires action.
