The Roommate
June 18-July 4, 2026

Echo Theatre presents the regional premiere of The Roommate by Jen Silverman. Caroline Hamilton directs the production, which runs June 19 through July 4, 2026, at the Bath House Cultural Center. Tickets are on sale now at echotheatre.org.

THE PLAY | Sharon, a divorced Iowa housewife, takes a roommate, Robyn, straight out of the Bronx. A tentative friendship evolves, secrets unfold, and Sharon’s darkly comedic exploration of a life unlived goes off the rails. This script, a play for two women in their “Third Act” of life, is fresh off a Broadway run that featured Mia Farrow and Patti LuPone.

THE STARS | The Roommate is a two-hander with a couple of secret weapons: Ellen F. Locy as Sharon and Merri Brewer as Robyn. Ellen is a much-loved former Echo Theatre Producing Partner who starred in many early productions, and Echo producers have coaxed her back from Austin to join the cast. Her co-star is Merri Brewer, a North Texas-based actress and arts administrator who serves as Managing Director at Theatre Three. These talented women served up hilarity performing stand-up and sketch comedy together “back in the day!” Echo is thrilled to reunite these colleagues onstage in The Roommate.

THE EXPERIENCE | The Roommate is a dark comedy exploring themes of identity, loneliness, and moral ambiguity.

THE PLAYWRIGHT |Jen Silverman is a versatile American playwright, novelist, and screenwriter known for works that explore power dynamics, absurdism, and queer identity. Their prolific career spans acclaimed off-Broadway plays, a Broadway debut, television writing, and published fiction.

VENUE | Bath House Cultural Center 521 E. Lawther Drive Dallas, TX 75218 (Located in White Rock Lake Park.)
